Ahead of our 2026 season, and following a successful restructuring of our programmed activity last year, we are hiring a Lead Coach!
Contract: 10 hours per week, 30 weeks per year (~April – October 2026)
Location: Firhill Basin, 80 Firhill Rd, Glasgow G20 7AL
Salary: £4,350 / £14.50 per hour (FTE 37hrs £27,898)
Provisional Schedule: 1 x weekday evening & Sunday sessions, with an opportunity for additional sessions on weekdays depending on funding.
Responsible to: Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) Board of Trustees (the ‘Board’)
Introduction
Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports (SCIO) (the ‘Firhill Youth Project’) is a registered charity which aims to positively impact lives in the North Glasgow community through the promotion of a range of accessible, affordable, and sustainable opportunities for local young people (and on occasion the wider community) to participate, coach, or volunteer in rowing and explore other physical activity and sport related opportunities at the Firhill Basin.
The Firhill Youth Project works in partnership with Scottish Rowing, the governing body for the sport of rowing in Scotland, and Glasgow Life/Sport. We also work in partnership with Glasgow Kayak Club & Partick Thistle Football Club as well as a range of local schools and community partners.
In this exciting role, the successful post holder will have operational responsibility for the coordination and delivery of water sports sessions and other physical activities in the Firhill Basin. As further detailed below, this will include working with children and young people from various communities in North Glasgow and managing a team of sessional coaches and volunteers that support the charity in its activities.

Job Description
The Project Lead Coach will report to the Board and will be responsible co-ordinating programmes, activities & events in collaboration with local community organisations and youth groups. The role will include both on and off the water programme delivery which will be supported by sessional & volunteer coaches.
The successful candidate will be required to maintain positive working relationships with:
All key partners - Scottish Rowing, Glasgow Life, Glasgow Kayak Club, and Partick Thistle Football Club.
Delivery partners and organisations (e.g., local youth groups and Active Schools).
Volunteer coaches, participants and parents or guardians of participants.
Any relevant funding organisations.
Key responsibilities will include:
To develop and lead the delivery of rowing and other water sports activities for children and young people.
Planning, coordinating and delivering additional sporting, lifestyle and educational activities, including ad-hoc and partnership sessions delivered in collaboration with local stakeholders, schools and community organisations.
To support and contribute to applications for any relevant funding streams and to assist in developing the financial model for the charity to work towards long term sustainability.
To manage and co-ordinate the team of sessional coaches and volunteer, ensuring all sessions have the appropriate number of competent coaches present.
Liaise with Scottish Rowing & Glasgow Life to signpost coaches & volunteers to suitable training to meet minimum operation procedures, including Child Wellbeing & Protection, First Aid courses.
Maintain up-to-date registers of all participants and volunteers as required.
Oversee the consent form process, including ensuring that all consent forms are completed and received prior to the relevant session(s) taking place.
Collate and record participants details and demographics information, with an emphasis on statistical information to be submitted to the Board for evaluation, reporting and assisting in funding applications.
Actively collate images and quotes on a weekly basis from participants, parents and accompanying staff/youth workers for evaluation purposes.
Routinely complete the monthly monitoring report and submit it to the Board.
Regularly provide progress updates to the Board, including as and when requested.
Assist with promotion, marketing campaigns and brand awareness of all Firhill Youth Project programmes and activities.
Ensure the PVG process is administered effectively for all sessional coaches and volunteers.
To contribute to the implementation of our strategic priorities as agreed by the Board.
To support and help develop progression pathways for participants, including opportunities for volunteering, coaching and further training.
To support participant recruitment and retention, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the programme.
Additional responsibilities
To attend relevant training courses to improve your experience and knowledge in line with the post.
To respect the rights of all participants and ensure that their well-being and safety are always paramount.
To attend any meetings required such as committee or Board meetings and provide activity updates when required.
To assist with completion of the annual report, including providing contributions from an operational/delivery perspective.
To adapt sessions to cater for various levels of age & ability and ensuring that all sessions are participant centred.
To ensure that all activities are delivered in line with the relevant Firhill Youth Project and Scottish Rowing policies and procedures – particularly the Child Wellbeing and Protection Policy.
To inspect all relevant sports and activity equipment prior to, and after, sessions to ensure that it is safe to use and report defective equipment for repair.
