ABOUT US

The Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub is a rowing and water sports activity hub that aims to positively impact lives of young people in the North Glasgow community.
We are a charity based in an area of Glasgow which has high levels of deprivation and often limited opportunities for young people to engage with sport and activity.

The project was designed to offer all young people, regardless of background, the opportunity to engage with sport within a free, fun, supportive and accessible programme.
We are based at the Firhill Basin, beside the Partick Thistle Football Stadium.

Since our inception in June 2019, we have helped hundreds of local young people to make use of our local waterway - the Forth and Clyde Canal, and surrounding green spaces including the Hamiltonhill Claypits Local Nature Reserve.

We are a multi-sport project, with a main focus on rowing and kayaking. These sports are often seen as exclusive, but we want to help break down that barrier and show that these are sports for everyone.

Our project has focused on a core group of young people attending for regular sessions, in addition to outreach work with local partner organisations including schools, charities and other youth groups.

We are aware of the positive physical and mental impact of engagement in sport for young people. Not only does it improve physical wellbeing, but we can see improved self esteem, teamworking, leadership, motivation and social skills. These are skills that are relevant not just in a sporting environment, but that can translate into education and future work life.

We want to give this opportunity to develop to all.
Whilst we have had young people progress to competing in regattas, and others joining the Glasgow Kayak Club following their experiences at FYPCSH; our key metric for success is seeing young people engaged in sport and having fun whilst doing so.

Our volunteer coaching programme also provides local people with opportunity to develop their leadership skills, whilst giving back to their community. We support our volunteers with relevant courses and help to drive them forward in their lives. We are always grateful to all our volunteers who do wonderful work with our young people.
