Come and join us!

Are you in primary 5 or above?

Do you live near the Firhill area of North Glasgow?

Are you looking for something fun to do?

We can offer you the opportunity to get involved in water sports like rowing, kayaking and more, all for free!

The Firhill Youth Project and Community sports hub will offer you a place to be active, make friends, develop skills and most importantly, have fun.

Our programme runs from April to October each year, and we have weekly sessions that you can get involved with.

Lots of our young people have developed personal skills and grown in confidence through our project, and we've had some go on to compete in regattas and others have progressed to joining the Glasgow Kayak Club.

We try to include a range of activities, and our partnership with the nearby Partick Thistle Football Club allows us to offer some indoor options like indoor rowing and multi-sport sessions.

In the past, our coordinators have run a range of different fun activities such as photography, crafts, local litter-picks and wild foraging. The position of the Firhill basin is ideal for exploring the canals and the Claypits Local Nature Reserve. We run school holiday programmes and previously have had involvement with local schools and organisations to offer rowing taster sessions.

Young People

Core Group Sessions

When our project relaunches in Spring, we will post a sample of our

regular schedule for young people (and volunteers) to attend.

Our "core group" refers to the weekly sessions that we put on for young people to attend (in contrast to our reach out sessions with local schools/organisations).

Of course, the best way to get up to date information about the sessions is to contact us - we'd love to hear from you!

“I loved when we were getting on the water and I was really nervous at first but then it was really really fun!!”

“I enjoyed the physical aspect of rowing and also meeting new friends during the summer. I decided to keep rowing because I wanted to continue learning a new skill and improving on what I achieved in the summer.”

"I am really enjoying the sessions at Firhill. They have opened my mind to new challenges and trying new things and meeting new people."

Young person, age 14

"I was nervous to start rowing but there was no need to be. As soon as I got there, I already felt welcome. I started in March and ever since every week I get so excited to go rowing. It just makes me happy, it's so much fun. Rowing has made me so much happier and more confident.
